Assam: After Nov 22 one-member panel will visit the Mukroh shooting site on Dec 28.

GUWAHATI: A one-member commission headed by Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan (retired judge of Guwahati High Court) will visit Makroh under Jarkding police station in West Karbi Anglong district on December 28.

The commission was set up by the Assam government to investigate the causes and circumstances of the death of six people as a result of police firing on November 22.
On November 22, violence erupted in Meghalaya’s Makroha village, in which at least six people lost their lives – five Meghalaya residents and an Assam forest guard.
Violence erupted along the Assam-Meghalaya border in the early hours of November 22 when a truck loaded with allegedly illegally cut timber was intercepted by Assam forest guards.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said, “The firing incident has nothing to do with the border issue between the two states.”
He added that the national media while reporting the incident misinformed the audience by claiming that the firing incident was a result of border disputes between Assam and Meghalaya.
