
25000 kg of Drugs will be Destroyed
Guwahati: 25000 kg of drugs will be destroyed, seized as part of a major drive by the Narcotics Control Bureau, will be destroyed here on Saturday in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Shah will also chair a regional meeting on ‘Narcotics Trafficking and National Security’ here to discuss the narcotics scenario in the Northeast region and ways to reduce it.
Chief Ministers and DGPs of all northeastern states will attend the meeting.
NCB will destroy around 11,000 kg of narcotics here on Saturday.
Additionally, about 13,675 kg of seized drugs (heroin, ganja, codeine cough syrup, narcotic pills) will be destroyed from Assam (2,531 kg) and Tripura (11,144 kg), an official said, while about 25,00 kg will be destroyed. Grams of drugs will be destroyed.
Demonstrating the Narendra Modi government’s commitment to make the society drug-free, the NCB, which functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is running a special mission from June 1 to destroy seized drugs.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence, NCB had decided that 75 thousand kg of drugs would be destroyed by all the regional units of NCB during this special campaign of 75 days.
The NCB achieved the target in just 60 days, well ahead of schedule, and reiterated its commitment to the nation in the fight against drug abuse. About 82,000 kg of seized drugs were destroyed till July 30, another official said.
Under this campaign, at a national conference held in Chandigarh on July 30, the Home Minister initiated the process of destruction of 31,000 kg of narcotics by various field units of NCB through virtual medium.
During this special drive from June 1 to 7, around 1,09,000 kg of seized drugs were destroyed by the NCB, the official said.
