Amid the violence that has been going on for the past few days, curfew was relaxed from 1 pm to 3 pm on May 7 in Jiribam district of Manipur, an official notification said.
“In view of the improvement of law and order in Jiribam district, prohibitory orders under sub-section 2 of Section 144 of Cr.P.C. have been imposed with effect from May 3, 2023. Thus rests today, 7th May 2023 from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm. Under sub-section 5 of section 144 of Cr. P.C,” was added in the notification.
It added that the subsequent relaxation would be reviewed and notified based on the assessment of the existing law and order situation.
The notification also requested the Superintendent of Police, Jiribam, to announce information regarding the relaxation of curfew.
After days of clashes in Manipur, curfew was imposed in several districts of the state to avoid any untoward incident. However, government property was destroyed in the violence.
Apart from Jiribam, there was some relief in Churachandpur as the curfew hours were relaxed from 7 am to 10 am on May 7.
