As polls 2023 campaign starts, Congress promises '5-star' state

Shillong: The Congress party in Meghalaya on Thursday kicked off its pre-poll campaign with a promise to transform the state into a “five-star”.

To achieve the goal, the party announced five promises at a press conference held in Shillong. The conference was presided over by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee chief Vincent Pala and AICC state general secretary in-charge Manish Chatrath.
At the press conference, Vincent Pala said, “Our top priority among the five commitments is to provide a direct transfer of Rs. 3,000 per month to single mothers living below the poverty line and raising their children alone. This will help these women. 36,000 per annum, these women will be able to pay their children’s school fees and cope with inflation. .
He further said, “Our second commitment is to provide a job to one deserving candidate from every household in Meghalaya. The lack of decent employment opportunities in the state has created frustration among our youth, who are unable to fulfill their basic needs. forced to migrate to cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata to do so.Congress party is determined to lift our youth out of this situation of hopelessness and despair.
At the same event, Manish Chatrath criticized the NPP-BJP government for not taking action. He said, “Poor governance by the NPP-BJP alliance has resulted in the first casualty of law and order in Meghalaya. High levels of unemployment among the youth have made them insecure, and different from across the border.” Drug trafficking has worsened the situation.
“The Congress Party is dedicated to solving these problems and making Meghalaya a safer, more prosperous place for all,” Chatrath said, stressing the Congress Party’s commitment to making Meghalaya a drug-free state.
Chatrath also said that the Congress party is committed to making Meghalaya a transparent state. “We also plan to introduce a new transparency law, which will be the mother of RTI. The Congress government introduced the Right to Information Act to empower citizens, but the Modi government and the NPP government have slowly implemented the law. A new law proposed by the Congress party will require governments to upload all development and infrastructure files on government portals six months after their closure. , which will promote transparency in governance and reduce corruption significantly,” Chatrath said.
The Congress party said its fifth pledge is to provide uninterrupted and regular electricity to both commercial and domestic consumers. Prolonged power outages have affected the production and earnings of industrialists in the state and have also adversely affected the education and development of children who are unable to study due to lack of electricity. Chatrath said that the Congress party’s commitment to uninterrupted power supply would not only boost the industrial development of the state but also ensure overall development of children.
