Guwahati: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to participate in active politics in five northeastern states: Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

“The AAP will not only expand its organizational set-up in these states but also participate in the assembly polls starting with the Mizoram assembly polls next month,” Rajesh Sharma, party in-charge of North-Eastern states, said on Monday.
Sharma said that during a meeting chaired by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday, it was decided to expand the party’s organization and contest elections in the northeastern states.
“A coordination committee and northeast cell will be formed for organizational expansion,” he said, pointing out that the people of the northeast are suffering from various problems including education, health care, inflation and unemployment.
Sharma said that the state presidents of the party from the Northeast during their meeting with the AAP chief had a detailed discussion about the various problems faced by the people in the Northeast states as well as the expansion of the AAP organization and the upcoming elections.
“During this meeting, it was decided that AAP will set up a Northeast Coordination Committee to expand into the Northeast states. Additionally, a Northeast Cell will be formed for the people of the Northeast. AAP in the upcoming Mizoram Assembly elections. The details of the number of contested seats and constituencies will be provided by the state committee and will be announced soon.
However, he said building the party’s base in the Northeast and contesting elections in the resource-poor region would be challenging. “Nevertheless, keeping in mind the hopes and aspirations of the people of the Northeast, AAP is embarking on a journey to contest the Mizoram elections,” Sharma said.
“The Northeast region faces many problems, including corruption and nepotism in the states. Government schools, hospitals and roads in the Northeast states are dilapidated, and inflation is on the rise. Unemployment is a major problem, with the North The rate is very high in the eastern states. It has become very important to address these issues.”
It may be noted that AAP leaders from five northeastern states met Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi on Sunday and the capacity and readiness of the party’s organizational base in the five states. was reviewed.
AAP leaders from the region included state party president Yamra Taya from Arunachal Pradesh, Bhaben Chowdhury from Assam, Andrew Lalremkima Pachuau from Mizoram, Asu Keyho from Nagaland, and co-incharge Abujam Umapada Luwang from Tripura.
During the meeting, party leaders provided insights on the current political scenario in their respective states.
Meanwhile, AAP Assam state media coordinator Jayanta Kumar Kalita informed here on Monday that the party leaders of the region have also proposed to the Delhi Chief Minister to set up a North-Eastern Cultural Department to promote its culture and heritage can be promoted. Party leaders provided insight into the current political scenario in their respective states.
“AAP will contest all the upcoming elections in the region. Our party president also discussed the seats in Assam from which AAP will contest in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
During the meeting, the national convener directed the state presidents of the party to take steps to strengthen the organizational base of the party in the Northeast ahead of the upcoming elections,” Kalita said in a statement issued here.
It may be noted that the AAP national convenor directed the North-East state presidents to form the North-East Coordination Committee before the assembly elections in Mizoram (November 2023) and Arunachal Pradesh (May 2024), the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, and the panchayat elections in Assam.
