Arunachal:On state’s ‘Unsung Heroes’ RGU team submits report

Itanagar: The research team on Unsung Heroes on Monday submitted its report to the Core Committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.
The Department of History of Rajiv Gandhi University has prepared a report on these heroes of Arunachal Pradesh who fought against the British.

Mein who formally received the report at his secretariat office here, said the team despite many challenges and hurdles successfully completed the much needed and much awaited task of researching and compiling the contributions made by the unsung heroes of Arunachal Pradesh. Congratulations on completion.
He said that this compilation will put Arunachal on the glorious map of freedom struggle and resistance against colonial rule.

“It will also reaffirm our love for freedom and patriotism,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister further said that the contribution of these heroes will be celebrated in a big way on the upcoming State Day.
He said that the events organized as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ will pay tribute to the great contribution of our forefathers in the freedom struggle.

Prof. Ashan Riddi, Research Coordinator and Head of Department of History, RGU informed that the research team will submit a final and comprehensive report on State Day after scrutiny by NCERT and the state government.
Ways to pay tribute to the unsung heroes during the State Day celebrations and the locations of war memorials were also discussed on the day.

The Arunachal Pradesh government had constituted an Unsung Heroes Core Committee headed by Mein to investigate the contribution of various personalities of the state in the country’s freedom struggle in 2021.
The committee may collect and examine the authentic documents, archives, journals etc. available in libraries and other places, seek comments from eminent personalities and others in this regard, visit relevant places of historical interest and take such steps as may be deemed appropriate. A task has been assigned to do. Recognition should be given to the anonymous freedom fighters of Arunachal.
The committee, with the support of RGU’s research team, has so far identified 15 unsung heroes, 100 freedom fighters and 64 martyrs from various communities of Arunachal who have also been recognized by the Government of India.

The report was submitted by the Core Committee in the presence of Adviser to the Chief Minister Tai Tagak, RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha, Core Committee Member Secretary Dani Sulu, Finance Secretary YW Ringo and RGU Registrar Dr NT Rikam among others.
