Arunachal: Two NSCN-K (YA) workers arrested for taking money.
Khonsa: 6 Assam Rifles and Tirup Police on Friday arrested two NSCN-K (YA) overground workers (OGW) from Dadam village, about 20 km from here.
The security forces said in a press release that the OGWs, identified as Mongnai Pansa, 38, and Manang Gangsa, 23, were caught red-handed collecting money from villagers by the banned outfit.
Pasasa is a resident of Nagisa village of Waka circle while Gangsa belongs to Chop village of the same circle.
“This concern has once again exposed the extortion network of banned organizations where the local population is being used as a nexus for extortion. The guerrillas were involved in collecting extortion money at the behest of the rebels, “the release said.
The Assam Rifles said so far more than 40 overground workers have been arrested by security forces and police “in a major blow to underground organizations”.
It may be mentioned here that more than 120 Gao Bora (village chiefs) and Sardars of Turp and Longding districts on Wednesday provided their support to the security forces to deal with and eliminate the threat of NSCN insurgents active in both the districts.
The unanimous decision of the village boras and sardars came after a security meeting held by the Assam Rifles’ Khonsa Battalion at the battalion’s unit headquarters here in collaboration with the local police and administration.
