The Pollution Control Board has banned dumping of garbage in Kameng River.
Guwahati: The Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) has asked the Deputy Commissioner of East Kameng to ensure better management of solid waste dumped in Kameng river.
The State Pollution Control Board issued the notice following a complaint filed by the Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR).
According to reports, the Pollution Board has directed the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) to immediately stop dumping solid waste into the Kameng River.
The board said that solid waste should be managed as per the provisions contained in the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016.
APSPCB member secretary, Tapik Raba warned that “necessary action will be initiated against the defaulter department as per relevant rules if it fails to comply with the directive”.
The board also banned dumping, burning or burying of solid waste in roads, open public spaces or drains or water bodies.
“It is essential to formulate various processes like scientifically separating, collecting and treating solid waste and disposal in an environmentally sound manner,” Raba said in the notice.
Further, the Member Secretary directed the DC to submit an action report within a week.
