Tinsukia: Two NSCN-KYA cadres surrendered before a joint team of Assam Rifles and Police in Tirup district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The surrendered militants have been identified as Thwang Kong Kong and Kumong Mitpo, both hailing from Laju circle in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tarap district.
The development comes in the backdrop of a series of protests by the rebel organization of the villagers and students’ organization of Tirap-Changlong-Longding (TCL) area in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to sources in the Assam Rifles, the cadres felt that most of the promises made by the group during recruitment were empty and that their ideology was false.
“The environment provided by the security forces and pressure from the villagers helped both to take this decision and join the mainstream.”
The two surrendered militants have also surrendered two pistols to the security forces.”Frustrated and fed up with the false narrative of the rebel groups, the two men decided to lay down their arms and join the mainstream,” a source said.
“So far 70 cadres, including some senior ones, have surrendered,” it added.
In October this year, suspected NSCN (K-YA) militants shot dead a 70-year-old businessman in Longding town, sparking a mass uprising against the group.
