Arunachal Pradesh: New breeds of monkeys have been named after Sela Pass. Scientists at the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) in Arunachal Pradesh have discovered a new species of monkey.
The new generation is named after the famous Sela Pass of Arunachal Pradesh, “Sela Macaque”.
“This monkey is genetically different from other breeds in the region,” said a ZSI official. According to the ZSI, this new breed of monkey has been “separated” from Arunachal Macaquein Tawang District by the Sela Pass.
Scientists at ZSI say that the Sela Pass prevented the mixing of the two species of macaques for about 2 million years.
While Arunachal Macaqueface is dark and dark brown in color, Sela Macaqueface is yellow and brown in color.
According to locals, Sela Macaqueis one of the major causes of crop damage in the western Kaming district of Arunachal Pradesh.
