Itanagar:  Panchayat by-election for 131 seats on July 12The Arunachal Pradesh State Election Commission on Tuesday announced by-elections on July 12 for a district council seat with 130 gram panchayat seats.

State Election Commissioner Hage Kojin told reporters here that elections for 40 gram panchayat seats and one district council in Vijoynagar administrative sub-division under Changlang district have been postponed due to law and order and other administrative issues.

Kojin said 11 seats had been excluded from the election process due to pending court cases before the Election Tribunal and the Eta Nagar Bench of the Guwahati High Court.

The seats that will be up for election are vacant due to reasons such as rejection of nomination papers, unavailability of eligible candidates, disqualification under anti-deviation laws, law and order issue till death and resignation during the local body elections to be held in December 2020. By-elections will be held at 101 polling stations spread across 20 districts of the state. An estimated 7,000 voters are eligible to cast their ballots.

In the districts, Lower Subansiri has the highest number of vacancies with 41 gram panchayat seats, followed by 11 in Upper Subanseri, nine in Lower Dibang Valley, seven in East Siang and West Siang and six in East and West Cumming districts respectively. Six are empty. They said.
The Panchayat by-election notification will be issued on June 14 and the last date for submission of nomination papers is June 21. He said that the scrutiny of papers would be held on June 23 while the last date for withdrawal of papers was fixed on June 27.
