Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh police have arrested Semley Hakhun , a “minister” of the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM), who was assigned to collect taxes for the militant outfit in Changlang district. done.
Hakhoon was arrested on March 25 by a joint team of SIT and Changlong police, while his Assam counterparts also assisted the team in the operation, said Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Chuku Apa.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) was headed by SP Rohit Rajbir Singh while SP Mihin Gambo Changlang was heading the police.
“Acting on credible intelligence input, our team reached Tinsukia, Assam on March 25 and traced the whereabouts of Hakhun’s . He was later apprehended by the team in collaboration with Tinsukia police. Rupees, two mobile phones and three SIM cards have been recovered, ”said Apa.
The IG informed that at least two cases of extortion and criminal intimidation have been registered against the NSCN-IM leader at Changlang and Itanagar police stations.
“One of the most wanted rebel leaders, Hakhun , was responsible for carrying out large-scale extortion activities by the NSCN-IM in the general area of Tirap, Changlang and Longding ,” Apa said.
Hakhon, who hails from the village of Wanrok in the Sagang region of Myanmar’s Kachin state, joined NSCN-K in 1986 and then NSCN-IM in 2013, when he was promoted to “Tatar” (Member of Parliament). He is currently holding the position of Closer (Minister) for NSCN (IM).
IGP Apa said that the state police was interrogating Hakhun and had so far revealed important information about the organizational structure and activities of the NSCN-IM leadership.
“Obviously, he was not working alone, and he is involved in a number of other extortion activities, and we are trying to track him down. The pace has accelerated and we now plan to work in a systematic way to address the root cause of the insurgency, “Apa said.
The IGP also commended the SIT and Changlang Police for their efforts and cooperation with the Assam Police.
