Tinsukia: In another case of “misidentification” by the Indian Army, two civilians were shot and injured during an operation launched between Hollam and Khowathong under Chasa village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Trap district at around 7.45 pm on Friday.
The injured civilians, identified as Nokphua Wangpan and Ramwang Wangsu, were airlifted by the army to Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh and their condition is said to be out of danger.

The development comes about three months after 13 civilians were killed in a military operation in Oting village in Nagaland’s Moon district.

An alleged video has surfaced of a man dressed in uniform claiming to be a major in the Indian Army’s 12 Para Security Forces.

“As an officer, I take full responsibility because this incident happened under my command,” the officer can be heard in the video recorded by the locals.

The officer admitted his mistake to reduce the tension. “I, as an officer, take full responsibility for his treatment and compensation to the family. The police are coming. If you want to register an FIR, I am ready to sign as an officer. “My boys will not leave until this issue is resolved,” he said in the video.

According to sources, the incident took place when the citizens were returning from a nearby river after fishing late in the evening. “The army opened fire, injuring them,” a source added.

Questions sent to Kumar Sharma, including Lt. Col. PRO of Army Spare Corps, were not answered.

An attempt to speak to the Superintendent of Police failed.

This is not the first such incident in recent days in Trap district. On March 21, two suspected rebels of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Asak-Mewah (NSCN-IM) were killed, while one was wounded by security forces in an anti-militant operation near Old Kolagaon village, 25-30 km away. ۔ Khonsa, the capital of Trap district. However, a day later, the NSCN issued a correspondence stating that one of the two was an NSCN official while the other was a civilian.
