Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik on Wednesday said that sports are the best medicine to keep athletes physically fit, mentally alert and morally upright.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship here, he said that the championship ignited the minds and imagination of the youth of the state to participate in sports on a larger scale.
He said that youth sports competitions inculcate the spirit of competition, sportsmanship and camaraderie among competitors, which fosters team spirit, ability to face challenges, willpower and camaraderie.
“At the end of the day sport has been the biggest winner,” the governor added.
Parnaik said that the state is honored and privileged to host the tournament which will pave the way for Arunachal Pradesh to take its rightful place in the sports mosaic of the country.
Delighted with the successful conduct of the sports event, the governor assured the provision of permanent table tennis infrastructure with state-of-the-art facilities in the state.
Parnaik congratulated all the medal winners, and gave a ‘well played’ pat to those representing his country. He also appreciated the organizers, flag bearers and sponsors for making the event a success.
State Education Minister Taba Tedir, Chief Secretary Dharmendra, Commissioner to Governor Ankur Garg and Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Abu Tayeng also participated in the programme.
Table Tennis Federation of India Honorary Secretary Kamlesh Mehta gave a brief report on the championship.
The event was organized by Table Tennis Arunachal under the aegis of Asia Table Tennis Union, Table Tennis Federation of India and South Asia Table Tennis Federation and supported by the State Government and National Hydro Electric Power Corporation Limited.
135 delegates including officials from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Team India participated in the championship.
