Arunachal: CM Khandu expressed grief over the loss of life due to rains and landslides.
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pima Khandu on Monday appealed to the people of the state, especially those living along riverbanks, rivers and landslide prone areas, to deal with any situation. Take precautions.
Expressing grief and concern over the loss of life due to landslides caused by continuous rains in the state capital for several days, Khandu said that if one respects nature and uses common sense while constructing houses, Monsoon-related disasters can be largely avoided.
“My heart aches every year during the monsoon when I am informed of the loss of life. My heart goes out to the souls of the deceased and the bereaved, who are mostly close and dear to me. Pray for peace, I reiterate that if we respect nature and use common sense in building houses, breaking the earth and stopping the natural flow of rivers and streams, Can be avoided, “Khandu said in a message
He said that the district administration has identified the buildings and allotted them as temporary relief camps and people can either move to unsafe places from there till the situation returns to normal.
The Chief Minister assured that the government would provide relief to the dead as usual and to the injured as per usual.
At least five people have been killed and six others injured in two separate landslides in Itanagar since Sunday, according to reports.
The deceased have been identified as Nagan Berman (40) and Tapas Rai (15), Tai Yai (45) and Teg Bahadur Sonar (52).
The body of a 35-year-old Kasim Rai has not been recovered yet.
The administration of Ita Nagar Capital Region has designated Government Higher Secondary School in KSS Sector, Government Middle School in Kankarnala, Naharlagan and Nikam New Hall in Bandar Deva as temporary relief camps.
