Itanagar: Landslides have cut off water supply in the Ita Nagar Capital Region (ICR) since Monday due to continuous rains for the past one week.
The ICR consists of the state capitals of Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Bandar Deva.
Tadar Mangku , Executive Engineer, PHE and Water Sanitation (Ita Nagar Division), said that drinking water has been supplied to Ita Nagar since Monday night after damage to the 450 mm diameter main supply line connecting the Puma Water Treatment Plant. The supply has been disrupted.
“Although efforts are being made to locate the site of the damage (possibly in the jungle), we were unable to proceed today due to the continuous rains,” Mangku said.
The official added that apart from Eta Nagar, various water supply lines of Naharlagun have also been disrupted due to incessant rains.
“Men and machinery have already been deployed at various locations to restore the lines with the required materials,” Mangko said.
It was further informed that Upper ESS Sector, Doni Polo Colony, Dokum Colony, F Sector, F & G Sector, Doordarshan Colony Donyi Polo School Area, Gohpur Area, Chandranagar , Vivek Vihar, Dera Notting College Area, IRB Water supply to N. Until the rehabilitation is completed, Eta Nagar Colony, Police Colony etc. will be affected.
The affected areas in Naharlagan include B Sector, Helipad Area, A Sector, Papu Hill, Pappu Nallah, Press Colony, Pachin Colony, Transport GM Office Area, UPA Tenali, Barapani, Tucker Colony etc.
“Efforts are being made to restore water supply lines as soon as possible,” Mangku said, adding that water tankers would be put in service wherever possible.
The department has appealed to consumers to bear the inconvenience.
