Itanagar: Newly elected BJP MLA Tsering Lhamu took oath as a member of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly on Thursday.
Speaker PD Sona administered the oath to Lahmu, who was elected from Lumla constituency in Tawang district, in a ceremony held at the Assembly premises here.
Sona congratulated Lhamu for being elected unopposed from the Lumla Assembly seat and expressed hope that the MLAs would uphold the sanctity of the house and act according to the aspirations of the people of their constituency.
Speaking to journalists later,Lhamu said she would try to complete all pending tasks initiated by her husband, Jambey Tashi, who represented the constituency for three consecutive terms since 2009.
“I am grateful to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, his cabinet colleagues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief JP Nadda for reposing their trust in me. I am BJP’s Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Viswas. And will work with the mantra of everyone’s efforts to bring tangible progress in my constituency,” Lahmu said.
The by-election to this seat was held on February 27 after Tashi’s death in November last year.
Assembly elections are due in the northeastern state next year.
The state’s 60-member House now has five women representatives, including four from the ruling BJP and one independent legislator.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP has 49 MLAs, while the opposition Congress and the National People’s Party (NPP) each have four. There are also three independent members in the house.
