Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) has slammed the state government for arresting 35 people under the stringent Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA) during the 72-hour bandh.
Some organizations in Arunachal Pradesh have called for a 72-hour bandh till May 12 in protest against the State Public Service Commission’s paper leak scam.
Addressing a press conference in Itanagar, APYC president Trah Johny said on Tuesday, “These persons were detained without any concrete reason”.
Johny also asked the government to explain why they were detained when the bandh was peaceful.
Alleging that the families of those detained were being harassed, the APYC president said, “If people are fighting for social change, why are the police harassing people? ”
He added that our state is trying to run a dictatorial government and is trying to suppress fundamental rights.
Demanding the immediate release of all arrested persons and immediate dismissal of all cases registered against them, the APYC also questioned whether a person already under judicial remand could be charged under the Act.
