Guwahati: An employee of the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IIT-G) has joined the freedom fighting United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I).
The IIT-Guwahati employee, who allegedly ‘joined’ Paresh Baruah-led ULFA-I, has been identified as Gautam Gogoi.
Notably, this is the first instance of a youth from the state joining ULFA-I after the signing of the tripartite peace accord between the pro-ULFA negotiating faction and the central and Assam governments.
Gautam Gogoi was reportedly working as a junior technician at IIT Guwahati in Assam.
Assam Police (special branch) ADGP Hiren Chandra Nath said that, alert was recieved from Facebook post about the joining of ULFA-I by IIT employee.
He hails from Amguri in Sivasagar district of Assam.
