Amid violence Prohibitory orders imposed in North district

Agartala: Amid reports of violence, the Tripura government on Tuesday suspended internet services in the North district of Tripura and imposed prohibitory orders in Dharmanagar sub-division.

A notification issued by Tripura Home Secretary PK Chakraborty said the decision to suspend internet services was made in response to rising tensions in parts of North Tripura.

The order – issued under Section 5(2) of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 – prohibits mobile SMS (short message service), mobile internet data services, and media transmissions for the next 72 hours, starting from 5 pm on October 15 in the entire district.

In another notification, Dharmanagar sub-divisional magistrate Sajal Debnath imposed prohibitory orders from October 15 to October 17.

The prohibitory orders restrict public gatherings, with exemptions for government officials on essential duties and patients requiring urgent medical care.

However, educational institutions are allowed to hold classes during the period.

The authorities have appealed to the people to remain calm and avoid misinformation while efforts continue to bring back normalcy in the region.
