Amid mudslinging, BJP claims upper hand in Majuli, civic body polls
Amid mudslinging between the ruling and opposition parties ahead of the local body elections and the by-elections for the high-profile Majuli seat, the Assam BJP claimed that the people of the state “already intend to vote for development”.
Addressing media persons here on Saturday, BJP Assam Pradesh spokesperson Pabitra Margarita stressed that the people of Majuli and voters of 80 municipal boards of the state have already decided to vote for development and progressive works
He further appealed to the people to come out in large numbers and vote to make democracy more dynamic, transparent and powerful.
Rejecting allegations by MP Ajit Bhuvan against the Assam government and the BJP over territorial issues, Margarita claimed that “Bhuvan became an MP with the help of AIUDF, the party’s indebted party IMD. Opposition to the repeal of the T-Act arises.
“Bhuyan has no right to speak about the language, culture, history and regionalism of Assam. In order to gain power and position, he has betrayed the regional sentiments of the Assamese people.
Margareta also criticized the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal, saying that the regional parties had “somehow surrendered to the Congress by forming an alliance with the Congress before the by-elections”.
Crowds at BJP rallies and only 300 or less. The rally in Majuli, which was attended by the presidents of Congress, AJP and Ravi Dal, signaled the acceptance of saffron party among the voters of Assam,”he claimed.
Rejecting allegations against Roopam Goswami, MLA of Subhasagar, Akhal Gogoi, in-charge of BJP Shiv Sagar district and of BJP district committee, threatening the river, Margarita claimed that such allegations “They are baseless, humorous and depict the fugitive attitude of Akhil Gogo which they adopt after defeat very clear and close.”
Himanta element
The state BJP’s response came after a two-day election campaign by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the river island, where he worked with the Brahmaputra Board to resolve the decades-long cut issue assured to work to speed up the fight erosion work on the river island.
“I will soon be personally overseeing the ant-cutting work by the Brahmaputra Board. The department has been directed to take steps to effectively reduce this problem in the areas affected by the erosion of Majuli,”the Chief Minister said.
