Amid fresh violence internet ban extended till 5th July in Manipur

Manipur: Internet connection in Manipur has been suspended for another 5 days to maintain law and order amid the incidents and fears of possible misuse of social media platforms. The suspension will be in effect until 3:00 p.m. On 5 July 2023.
The decision came at a time when the Director General of Police in Manipur reported ongoing incidents of violence, assaults, arson and gunfights.
There is a growing fear that anti-social elements may exploit social media on a large scale to spread hate speech, hate video messages and incite public unrest, with serious implications for the law and order situation of the state. Can be compiled.
Authorities have expressed imminent threats, including loss of life, damage to public and private property, and widespread disruption of public peace and communal harmony. They are particularly concerned about the circulation of inflammatory content, false rumours, and mobilization of agitators and protesters through various social media platforms, messaging services, and bulk SMS.
As per Rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017, further suspension/stopping of mobile data services and internet/data services including broadband and VSATs has been ordered.
The order covers various electronic devices like tablets, computers and mobile phones as well as platforms like Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Specific exemptions may be granted by the Government on a case-by-case basis.
The internet suspension order, which will come into effect immediately, is aimed at disrupting the maintenance of law and order in Manipur. It will be in effect for the next 5 days, ending at 3:00 p.m. On 5 July 2023.
In view of the emergency, this order has been issued unilaterally and will be communicated to the public through the press and electronic media. Any violation of the order will result in legal action, as the authorities have warned.
