Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) has claimed responsibility for the attack on Assam Rifles vehicles in Assam’s Tinsukia on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place at Namdang in Tinsukia, which is on Changlang Road in Margherita.
The ULFA-I in an emailed statement claimed that the attack was carried out by them and claimed that several Assam Rifles personnel were injured and several of their vehicles were damaged during the attack.
The email also claimed that injured Assam Rifles personnel were airlifted for treatment soon after the attack.
Earlier, Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gaurav confirmed the ambush.
“Right now I cannot say anything about the incident as no concrete details are available,” he said.
“Militant groups have easily infiltrated into Indian territory through Arunachal Pradesh to carry out subversive activities.Arunachal Pradesh shares international borders with Myanmar and China. The militant group took advantage of the rough terrain to infiltrate into India,” said a police official.
“Right now we cannot ascertain whether the attack was carried out by militant groups,” he said.
After proper investigation, we can confirm about the group involved in the attack on the vehicle of Assam Rifles.
