Heavy firing was reported on Saturday afternoon at border post No. 80 near Holenphai village along the India-Myanmar border, causing panic among the villagers. Sources said that the people of the village have fled from their homes to the border town of Moreh.
According to reliable sources, there is a large camp of the PDF and KNF(B) near Holenpha village and it was suspected that the firefight could be between Myanmar’s junta and separatist groups in the country.
Meanwhile, a gunfight broke out between Manipur Rifles personnel and suspected Kuki militants in Tuikun village on Saturday, amid efforts to end the bloodshed in the conflict-ridden state.
The incident took place around 7.15 pm when troops of the Manipur Rifles were patrolling in Kangchup Chingkhong where they were fired upon and security personnel retaliated.
There was a brief exchange of fire between the two groups. However, there are no confirmed reports of casualties in the fighting till the time of writing this report.
