Assam: The Jorhat District Magistrate has imposed a night curfew under Section 144 of the CrPC within a five-km stretch on the Assam side of the Assam-Nagaland border in the district.
An order issued by the District Magistrate said that the night curfew will be in force at the inter-state border from 8 pm to 5 am thus prohibiting movement of all types of vehicles/persons etc. during the said period.
The order said that the move was taken in view of information received by the District Magistrate from the Intelligence Branch and the District Police that some extremist outfits were trying to enter the state from the Nagaland border to attack in Jorhat district and trouble arises.
According to a source report, it has been learned that ULFA (I) has recently enrolled new volunteers in its group and they may use the Assam-Nagaland border areas for transit and other purposes, the order said.
