Kohima: Around 40 houses were gutted by fire in the locality of Borlengri, Karbi Anglong on the Assam-Nagaland border on April 28. The incident reportedly took place during the day at around 1PM whereupon a fire broke out from one of the houses which quickly spread to the other
With West fire station Dimapur being the nearest fire service respondents, two fire tenders were deployed, along with two others from Central fire station, said an official from the station. As most of the houses (rented) were shanty structures, the inferno engulfed about 40 houses before it was able to be controlled, the official said.
It was yet to be ascertained what had been the cause of the fire. However, during the time of the incident, the official noted that there was a power-cut in the area leaving doubts as to whether it might be from a short-circuit fuse.
