Aizawl: A special court in Aizawl on Monday sentenced two former officers of the state Excise and Narcotics Department and the Finance Department to 5 and 4 years in jail respectively in a 5-year-old corruption case.
The Special Court (Prevention of Corruption Act) also fined him Rs 1.80 crore. 3 lakhs respectively and sent them to Central Jail, Aizawl.
Special Judge HTC Lalrinchhana convicted Rongura, then Superintendent of Excise and Narcotics Department in the Serchup Office, for embezzlement of over Rs. 1.73 crore by falsifying salary bills of office staff.
During his tenure as superintendent between August 2010 and January 2017, Rongura instructed cashiers and other related staff to prepare fraudulent salary bills (106 bills) totaling 1.81 Add an additional amount of Rs.

The Special Court sentenced the then Assistant Accounts Officer of the Serchhip Treasury, Suakngura, to 4 years in prison for taking bribe from Rongura.
A fine of Rs 3 lakh was imposed against them and in case of non-payment they will have to undergo another 18 months imprisonment.
The special court had on March 17 convicted the duo under Sections 420 (cheating), 477A (falsification of accounts) of the IPC and Section 13(2) (criminal misconduct) of the Anti-Corruption Act, 1988.
This is the second important decision of the special court in corruption cases this year.
Last month, a special court sentenced six people, including Chief Minister Zoramthanga’s younger brother, to one year in jail for obtaining government compensation through fake claims by forging land passes and authority letters.
