Ahead of polls Rahul Gandhi likely to visit Mizoram on October 16

Aizawl: Ahead of the Mizoram state assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit the poll-bound state on October 16.

According to sources, Rahul Gandhi will stay in the state for two days.
Speaking to the media, AICC Media Coordinator and Mizoram In-charge Mathew Anthony said, “Rahul Gandhi is very happy to visit Mizoram on October 16-18.
On October 16, Rahul Gandhi will interact with the people of Mizoram from Chandmari Junction to Treasury Bhawan and spread the message of love, peace and secularism for the expected development of the country as well as the state of Mizoram. ”
Further, the AICC leader also claimed that Rahul Gandhi will return to Delhi on October 18, 2023 after attending a press conference in the morning hours at Aizawl Press Club.
Meanwhile, in a unanimous decision, the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), representing various political parties, student groups, and NGOs in Mizoram, formally appealed to the Election Commission of India (ECI). A request has been made to reconsider the counting date for the upcoming elections. Elections to the Mizoram State Legislative Assembly are scheduled for Sunday, December 3.
A letter jointly signed by the presidents of major political parties in Mizoram including AAP, BJP, MNF, MPCC, PC, ZNP, and ZPM as well as prominent NGOs like CYMA, MUP, MHIP, MSU, and MZP. was sent Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Rajiv Kumar, on behalf of Mizoram Community.
The letter, dated October 11, 2023, highlights the deep religious and cultural importance of Sunday in Mizoram, where about 90% of the population practices Christianity. Since Sunday is considered a holy day for the people of Mizoram, it is customary to dedicate this day exclusively for religious worship. No government programs or business activities are conducted on Sundays in the state.
