Guwahati: Bhutanese Ambassador to India Major General Vetsop Namgyel on Wednesday called on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, ahead of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck’s three-day private visit to the state from November 3.
Sarma told the ambassador that he was “excited to welcome the King and Her Majesty the Queen of Bhutan” along with officials and people of the state, the chief minister’s office posted on X.
The 43-year-old monarch of the neighboring Himalayan kingdom will be accompanied by Queen Jetsun Pema and his two sons on a private state visit.
On Saturday, the king and his family will visit the Kamakhya temple on the Nilachal hills here, attend a cultural program organized by the Assam government and attend a dinner hosted by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria.
The next day, they will visit Kaziranga National Park, famous for its one-horned rhinoceros.
The Chief Minister will host a dinner in his honor in the evening. The King and his family will return to Bhutan on November 5.
