Imphal: Hundreds of women took to the streets of Imphal on Monday against the ongoing communal violence in Manipur.
The women, who were members of Thawai Mirel and Meira Paibis organizations, blocked NH-2 at Chingamakhong and demanded to meet Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
The women were stopped by security forces from meeting the chief minister but continued to protest, chanting slogans and demanding a peaceful resolution to the violence.
They questioned the government’s handling of the situation and asked how many more lives will have to be lost before the state achieves peace.
More than 150 people have been killed in communal violence in Manipur so far and the situation remains tense.
