Shillong: The Joint Action Committee (JAC), a group of various recognized legal associations of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Meghalaya, has decided to intensify the ongoing protest against Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla.
Accordingly, the JAC has decided to resort to non-cooperation motion starting from the next meeting of the Academic Council, due to non-fulfilment of its demands.
The JAC said in a statement that the NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU) has officially joined the fight for the overall welfare of the university.
The JAC also thanked the Meghalaya Tribal Teachers Association (METTA) for their full cooperation.
The JAC is seeking the removal of Rohit Prasad, a contractual technical officer/senior consultant who was illegally appointed. The deadline for Prasad’s removal, as set by the JAC in its letter dated October 19, has expired.
Since the Vice-Chancellor has sided with Prasad in illegality and ignoring the sentiments of the stakeholders, the JAC is left with no option but to stage a full protest.
The JAC will begin with non-cooperation and non-participation in the conduct of the forthcoming 111th Academic Council meeting, scheduled to be held on October 31 at 11 am at the Multi-Purpose Convention Hall.
Apart from the demand for Prasad’s removal, the JAC has also listed several other genuine long-pending demands which the vice-chancellor had to fulfill within the stipulated period.
