Against revisiting of NLTP Act NSCN (Khango) supports NBCC

Dimapur: The NSCN-K (Khango) has expressed strong support for the NBCC, Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), and various civil society organizations (CSOs) in opposing the State Government’s decision to revisit the NLTP Act of 1989.

Voicing serious concerns over the potential repercussions of amending the Act and its impact on Naga society, the NSCN-K (Khango) under the banner of “Nagaland for Christ,” criticized the State Government’s move to lift the NLTP Act, arguing that such a decision could undermine Christian moral values and lead to increased alcohol consumption. It contended that the Act’s removal would adversely affect family stability, economic progress, and overall community well-being.

The NSCN-K (Khango) also highlighted the ongoing issues between different communities and national workers in Nagaland, attributing some of these problems to the influence of alcohol and other addictive substances. It warned that easing restrictions on liquor could further disturb the peaceful atmosphere essential to the Naga National cause.

Additionally, the NSCN-K (Khango) urged the CSOs and committees in Nagaland to focus their efforts on this critical issue rather than escalating minor disputes for personal gain. It called for a unified stand against the potential negative impacts of revisiting the NLTP Act, and the need to protect the youth from future societal harms.

The organization, meanwhile, reaffirmed its commitment to combating anti-social elements, a stance publicly declared on February 14, 2023, during a declaration and prayer session led by Ato Kilonser Hokato Vusshe.

It urged the State Government and legislators to comprehensively initiate punitive action to save the Christian values without hurting the sentiments of the believers who voted them to power during election.

The NSCN-K (Khango) warned that if the 5th session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly passes a bill that intensifies these concerns, the 60 MLAs involved will be historically remembered for their role in this contentious issue.
