Against crack down on Arambai Tenggol, Imphal women hold rally

Imphal: The Imphal Valley erupted with protests on February 29 as citizens rallied against the crackdown on village volunteers and members of Arambai Tenggol.
In various districts of the Valley, protesters took to the streets and expressed their strong support for those at the forefront of the defense against the armed Kuki militants.
During the daylight hours, a widespread sit-in protest gripped the area, while as dusk fell, women-led torch-carrying rallies lit up the night sky.
Highlighting the vital role of village volunteers and Arambai Tenggol in thwarting Kuki aggression, the protesters demanded the government to recognize and appreciate their tireless efforts.
“They are our protectors, our sons,” remarked one of the protesting women, adding that these volunteers play an indispensable role in protecting the state’s suburbs.
Amidst echoes of demands for the cancellation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militants, the protesters highlighted the urgent need to restore peace and normalcy in the state. “The current crisis calls for action,” warned one protester, hinting at more intense protests if the government fails to heed the public’s call.
Slogans like “Stop crackdown on village volunteers and Arambai Tenggol,” “Cancel SoO,” “Return Assam Rifles from Manipur,” and “Enforce NRC in the state” echoed on the streets.
