Kangpokpi: In connection with the arrest of Kuki-Zo persons by central agencies, CBI and NIA, a sit-in protest was held today under the auspices of the committee at Tribal Alliance Sadar Hills Kangpokpi, demanding the unconditional release of the arrested persons.
Hundreds of people, mostly Kuki-Zo women, from Saparmeina and its adjoining areas in Kangpokpi district took part in the protest.
The protesters shouted slogans such as, “We want justice”, “We want Separate administration”, etc.
They also hold placards that read, “You can bend the law, but, you cannot bend Justice”, “NIA and CBI should distance from politics”, “CBI and NIA should act as Central Agencies, not state puppets”, “Don’t misuse central agencies for political mileage”, “We want non-partisan agency”, “We don’t want Meitei eccentric CBI and NIA”, “Don’t take our gullibility as weakness”, “Meiteis trampled the Constitution, Centre should not follow suit”, “power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely”, “We demand Separate Administration”, “We want Separate Administration for judicious action”.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the protest, CoTU’s Media Cell Coordinator, Ng. Lun Kipgen said that Kuki-Zo people were arrested on a casual basis by central agencies by tracking mobile phones and we want to ask what about these cases with video evidence.
He also wondered why there was a delay in arresting those involved in murders, videos of Kuki-Zo women being naked, rape etc. when central agencies are so quick to arrest them on flimsy grounds. Dealing with the evidence.
He said that the arrest of Kuki-Zo people by the central agencies is not enough with mere evidence and it is not enough for the Kuki-Zo community.
He then appealed to the Center not to play with central agencies like CBI and NIA and added that you can bend the law but you cannot bend justice.
He then said that we need equal treatment from the Center in respect of arrests or any investigations conducted by central agencies like CBI and NIA.
Convenor of COTU Women’s Wing, Neinu said that even after six months, no case has been registered against the Meitei rebels who brutally killed Seigunlal Misao in Motbung in March, CBI Koki Acting fast enough to make a biased arrest on Zo’s people.
She also said that the CBI has not yet arrested those involved in the looting of arms and ammunition in the state armory and there are many cases with photographic and video evidence but the CBI and the NIA. Ignoring the facts.
Strongly condemning the alleged electoral injustice, the CoTU Women’s Wing also demanded the immediate unconditional release of the Kuki-Zo persons arrested by the central agencies.
