Against 74 percent hike in degree fees student protest in karimganj
Guwahati: Protests against the recent hike in degree admission fees continue to gain momentum in the Karimganj district. For the third consecutive day, hundreds of students have gathered at the Dharna Shed in the Ayukta premises, braving intense heat to voice their discontent.
The fee increase, which saw an addition of approximately Rs. 3,000 to the previous fee of Rs. 4,060, has resulted in a total fee of Rs. 7,060. This substantial hike has placed a significant burden on students from poorer sections, making higher education increasingly inaccessible for many.
Despite the ongoing protests and the evident frustration among the student community, the district administration has yet to respond to their demands. Protesters allege that both the ruling party and the local administration are turning a blind eye to their plight.
A student leader, speaking on behalf of the protesters, stated, “We have been sitting here for days, enduring the scorching heat, yet no one from the administration has come forward to address our concerns. The fee hike is unjust and makes it impossible for many of us to continue our education.”
The students are calling for an immediate rollback of the fee increase and are demanding that the government and district authorities take swift action to ensure education remains affordable for all.
