After tensions erupted in Moreh section 144 imposed

Imphal: High-voltage tension continued for the second day on Friday along the international border at Moreh, India’s border trading hub with Myanmar, following an indefinite shutdown called by the Joint Action Committee against the killing of Seiminthang Lapho.

Tengnoupal District Commissioner Yumnam Rajan issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC.
The order prohibits the gathering of four or more people in a specified area which is likely to cause or cause harm to human life or property.

It imposes restrictions on the possession or transfer of any type of weapon within a given jurisdiction.
Safety arrangements are being made to avoid any untoward incident.

Police and Indian Reserve Battalion personnel are being deployed at sensitive locations in Moreh.

In response to the complete shutdown, all shops, banks and businesses downed their shutters.
All educational institutions remained closed due to the shutdown.

No untoward incident has been reported so far.

No private vehicle from Imphal reached the border town and no vehicle from Moreh left for Imphal on the second day, but security forces and police vehicles were seen plying the road as usual.

The report states that Moreh is cut off from the rest of the country by the road.
The body of Seiminthang Lapho, aged around 35, was recovered by a team from Mora police station led by its DSP Chaudhry Anand at around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning in a stream of the Khujairok river along the Manipur-Myanmar border. was recovered from the edge of After registering an FIR, the body has been kept inside the police station for further investigation, police said.

It is very unfortunate that such a carnage could happen in the heart of the border town of Moreh where proper security measures should be taken.

The convener added that it is surprising how such random killings can happen under the nose of the security forces.
