After group clash Section 144 CrPC imposed in Silchar

Guwahati: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC have been issued following a clash between people of two communities in the College Road area of Silchar city in Assam’s Cachar district.

According to officials, prohibitory orders have been imposed in the area as tensions escalated and public peace was feared.
The vehicles were damaged as a result of the clash between the members of the two communities. Some people were also injured by stone pelting by a group.

Fortunately, the Cachar police intervened quickly, bringing the situation under control and preventing the violence from escalating further.
News of the clash began to surface on social media, disrupting the communal harmony that Silchar prided itself on, especially during the Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.

Amid the chaos, people from the Muslim community claimed that their homes were raided in an alleged attempt to investigate Zabeeha’s activities.
They also expressed grief over the damage to their place of worship.

On the other hand, people from another community asserted that innocent passengers were subjected to unprovoked attacks and religious insults.
Assam Police DIG (Southern Range) Kankan Jyoti Saikia said additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas to maintain peace.

“The situation is under control. We have identified several sensitive areas and deployed additional forces. While there was some tension, peace has been restored. I appeal to the local residents to take the law into their own hands. Avoid taking,” said DIG Saikia.
Cachar SP Numal Mahatta immediately reached the spot and engaged in discussions with both the parties involved in the clash.

SP Mahatta stressed the importance of not being influenced by rumours, and appealed to the public to refrain from spreading baseless information.
