Additional troops deployed as fresh firing incidents in Sugnu, Serou

Imphal: Additional security forces have been redeployed in Manipur’s Sugnu and Serou following fresh incidents of fire and firing in the areas.

Notably, this ‘re-deployment’ of security forces in Manipur’s Sugnu and Serou was ‘necessary’ following “several incidents of violence, arson and firing” in the last 48 hours.
The additional ‘redeployed’ troops have been tasked with stepping up measures to prevent widespread infiltration operations, ambushes and arson and violence in the area.

Intermittent firing between security forces and insurgents on Tuesday morning (June 6) resulted in wide area control operations by the Assam Rifles, BSF and police in Sugnu and Serou areas, an official statement said. was exchanged.
The statement added that security forces have taken adequate measures to prevent the insurgents from “breaking contact” and fleeing to nearby areas.
A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel lost his life and two Assam Rifles personnel sustained bullet injuries during an encounter with a group of insurgents in Serou, Manipur on Tuesday June 6 morning.

Two personnel of the Assam Rifles, who sustained bullet injuries, have been airlifted to Mantripukhri in Imphal by an army helicopter.
“Inputs indicate some insurgent casualties and this is being verified on the ground,” the statement added.

During the initial search, two AK series rifles, one 51 mm mortar, two carbines, ammunition and ammunition stores were recovered from the firing site.
“Operations are underway to clear the area,” the statement added.

It may be noted that the state of Manipur has been on the boil since May 3 following clashes between two communities and subsequent large-scale violence.

Around 100 people have lost their lives and thousands have been displaced in the state following the clashes and subsequent violence.
