Active freedom-fighter of Kuki National Front (N) arrested in Imphal

Imphal: An active freedom-fighter of the Kuki National Front (Nehlun), a non-SoO group, has been arrested from Selbuhjang village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

According to sources, the arrested freedom-fighter, identified as Seiminlal Dimngel alias Lalboi alias Michael, 35-year-old son of Pakhuhao Dimangel of Saijang village, was involved in extortion activities in Saikul area.
He was arrested by a team of Churachandpur police at around 7:30 pm on Saturday.
According to police sources, based on a specific tip-off about the presence of a KNF(N) freedom-fighter intending to carry out partisan activities in Selbuhjang village, a team from Sangaikot police station led by SIT Jangkholal Hokip on Saturday. A search operation was conducted in the evening.
Police sources said that after a two-hour search, a suspect was taken into custody and on interrogation, he revealed that he was an active member of the KNF (N). He further disclosed that he joined the organization in July 2022 along with 18 others through the self-proclaimed chairman of KNF (N) Henkholen Kipgen alias James Kipgen.
During interrogation, the cadre admitted to supplying demand letters to traders and shopkeepers in Saikul area.
Based on his statement, Dimngel was arrested and booked under Sections 400 and 384 of the Indian Penal Code. He was later handed over to Churachandpur police station for further investigation, sources said.
After the arrest, the KNF(N) freedom-fighter was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Churachandpur and remanded in police custody till March 2, 2023.
