Imphal: The Supreme Court has stepped in to address the tragic incident of sexual violence against women in Manipur on July 20, as a shocking video of two women being paraded by a mob has surfaced, sparking outrage across the country.
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, in a statement, urged the government to take immediate action and warned that if immediate steps were not taken, the court would intervene.
Responding to the viral video from Manipur, former Chief Justice of India and BJP MP Ranjan Gogoi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying, “There is nothing to comment on. It is very sad…it is indeed very unfortunate.”
In a powerful and strongly worded statement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the chief ministers of all states to prioritize the safety and security of women and children.
Expressing deep grief over this heinous attack, PM Modi asserted that the culprits will not be spared.
“This is a dark and heinous act that has no place in our society. Those responsible for this heinous act will not be spared,” PM Modi asserted during the monsoon session.
The Prime Minister further emphasized that justice will be delivered without any compromise, as the law will take its course with full force. “No criminal will be spared.
What happened to the daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven,” announced Prime Minister Modi, assuring the nation of the government’s commitment to bring the culprits to justice.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed deep grief and condemnation over the disturbing incident.
After a shocking video went viral on social media, Chief Minister Singh took to Twitter to express his heartfelt condolences to the victims and promised strict action against the culprits.
