Across Imphal valley Meira Paibis takes out torch rally for peace

Imphal: As the sun set in violence-hit Manipur on Tuesday, the roads and streets of the Imphal Valley echoed with cries for the withdrawal of the SoO agreement with some militant groups and the withdrawal of the Assam Rifles from the state. Demanded to be removed as A great torch rally was held.
Meira Paibis took out the torch rally as COCOMI appealed to the people of Manipur to form human chains in protest across the state from 8 to 9 pm against the alleged nexus between the Assam Rifles and Kuki militants.
COCOMI also appealed to the protestors to raise slogans like ‘Strong action against Kuki narco-terrorists’ and ‘Withdraw Assam Rifles immediately’.
After that slogans like ‘Remove Assam Rifles immediately’, ‘Withdraw SoO Agreement’, ‘Long live Manipur’, ‘Save the territorial integrity of Manipur’ were raised during the rally at various places in the Imphal valley.
Meira Paibis, carrying torches in large numbers, were seen demonstrating at various places in Greater Imphal areas, such as Khurai Lamlong, Wangkhei, Sagolband, Uripok, Kwakeithel etc. Residents of Telipati area were also seen protesting.
It may be noted that the common people have often expressed their unhappiness and disbelief over the alleged inaction and silent spectatorship of the Assam Rifles during the onslaught of Kuki militants in the valley’s suburbs.
Several CSOs, villagers and local bodies had also demanded the removal of the Assam Rifles since the beginning of the crisis in the state.
