Kohima: The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has strongly condemned the alleged abduction, assault, and intimidation reportedly carried out against four innocent individuals, including a students, in the early hours of December 17 at Thahekhu Village, Dimapur.
In a statement issued by the Media Cell of the DNSU, the union expressed deep concern and alarm over the involvement of individuals claiming affiliation with Naga political groups in this grave incident. It termed the use of firearms, including AK-47s and pistols, to intimidate and abduct innocent citizens as not only utterly unacceptable but also a flagrant violation of the rule of law.
The DNSU reiterated its long-standing position that no Naga political group should resort to using firearms against students.
Students represent the future of our society, and it is the duty of all stakeholders to ensure their safety and well-being. The use of violence or intimidation against them is reprehensible, it stated.
The DNSU also emphasized that if those entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the citizens fail to recognize that firearms are meant for protection and service, and not for intimidation and harm, they must step down from their positions. The safety of student life must be respected at all times, and violence has no place in this context.
In light of these events, the DNSU has demanded immediate and stringent action against the perpetrators, calling for their arrest and prosecution under relevant penal laws. The union expressed full confidence in the police department’s ability to conduct an impartial investigation and deliver justice to the victims.
However, the DNSU warned that any failure to ensure justice in this case will lead to a catastrophic loss of public trust in the law among both the general public and the student community. Should any further untoward incidents arise due to inaction by the authorities, the responsibility will lie squarely with the concerned authorities and the stakeholders of the involved group, it went on to state.
The DNSU also called on all political parties and stakeholders to unequivocally condemn such acts of violence and intimidation, to must ensure that their affiliates and supporters respect the law and uphold the rights of every citizen.
The DNSU has expressed solidarity with the victims and their families and demanded a thorough investigation to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
