A SOREPA freedom-fighter detained by Assam Rifles in Imphal dist

Imphal:The Assam Rifles said on February 5 that it has arrested a freedom-fighter of banned outfit SOREPA in Manipur’s Imphal district.

The freedom-fighter was arrested after a joint operation by the Assam Rifles’ Keithelmanbi Battalion along with the police.
The Keithelmanbi Battalion of the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the police on 03 February 2023, arrested an active freedom-fighter of the banned group Suripa from Ahallup Thongkhong in Imphal East District, Manipur.
In addition, 42 Assam Rifles along with a team of Champai Police conducted random checking on February 5 in a joint operation and recovered 119 grams of heroin from a vehicle valued at over Rs 59 lakh.

While conducting random checks on the outskirts of Mulakawi village in Mizoram’s Chamfai district, the joint team recovered heroin.
The contraband was recovered from the possession of a person named Vanlalchama of Khamrang village in Kolasib district, who was the driver of a vehicle going from Zokhathar to Champhai.

On January 30, the Chief Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) recovered 740 bags of illegal nuts worth Rs 18.5 lakh in general area Chhungte, Champhai and arrested seven persons on 30 Arrested. January 2023.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Police Department Champhai based on specific information.

The estimated value of exported nuts is Rs 18.5 lakh.

The seized consignment and the apprehended persons were handed over to the Customs Department Champai on January 31, 2023 for further legal action.
