Aizawl: Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi arrived in Azul on Friday on a three-day visit to the northeastern state, official sources said.
Sources said that along with Munshi, eight Bangladeshi officials were received at the only Lengpui airport by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Dr. R. Lalthangliana and other officials.
During his visit, the Secretary will jointly inspect some projects for border trade between Mizoram and Bangladesh on the Indo-Bangladesh border.
It said they would visit the proposed border haat at Silsury village in Mamit district of West Mizoram on Saturday and an integrated check post at Kawrpuichhuah in Lunglei district in the southern part of the state, which is located at Lalthangliana on the Indo-Bangladesh border are together.
The visiting Bangladeshi minister will also visit Reiek, a hill station and tourist spot in Mamit district, about 29 km from the state capital Azul, on Sunday.
The sources added that he would also meet Chief Minister Zoramthanga and address a press conference before finally leaving for Kolkata on Monday
Mizoram shares a 318 km long international border with Bangladesh.
To facilitate border trade between Mizoram and Bangladesh, there are plans to set up at least four border hats along the Mizoram-Bangladesh border, in addition to an integrated check post at Kawrpuichhuah .
