Prisoners Escape
KOHIMA: At least nine inmates of Nagaland’s Moon district jail have escaped from the jail, and a massive search operation is underway to trace them, police said on Sunday.
These inmates include under-trials and murder convicts, a police officer said, adding that they somehow managed to escape with the keys to their cells on Saturday morning.
A case has been registered at Moon police station and further investigation is underway.
“Police have launched an extensive search operation, issued a lookout notice and alerted the concerned agencies,” he said.
The village councils of the inmates have also been asked to contact the police if they have any information about the jail escapees, the officer said.
