Lalrinsanga, a resident of Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district, was aware of the poor health facilities in his district. But realizing his pitiable condition, his cousin died.
In January 2021, the family suffered another setback when Lalrinsanga’s sister developed an ovarian cyst. He needed an emergency operation, but no surgeon was available in Lawngtlai. They had to go to Lunglei, another district capital, which is a four-hour drive away.

“They performed an emergency operation in Lunglei, and somehow survived. There are many people in Lawngtlai and surrounding areas who lost their lives because they did not receive timely care and treatment. I know that This kind of situation has been faced not only by our family but also by many other families, ”he said.
