Imphal: At least five people were injured in an encounter between the Village Defense Force (VDF) and a group of militants in Khamenlok, bordering Manipur’s Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts, on Monday, police said.
Police officials said that five injured have been admitted to a hospital in Imphal, where the condition of one is said to be critical.
After the exchange of gunfire between the VDF and the militants, security forces reached the area and then the armed militants managed to escape.
There are reports that one militant was killed in the firing, but the authorities are yet to confirm this.
No major incident of violence has been reported from any district in the last three days.
With relaxation of seven to 12 hours, curfew remained in force in 11 out of 16 districts of Manipur, while internet services remained suspended across the state from May 3.
