Guwahati: The Committee of Tribal Unity (COTU), a civil society organization based in the Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi district of Manipur, has called for an emergency shutdown on National Highway-37 (NH-37) from 6 am to 9 pm on Tuesday.
According to CoTU media cell chief Thanglenmang Kipgen, the bandh is being called to commemorate the fifth month of the “Ethnic Cleansing Campaign” organized by the Manipur state government.
The CoTU has also given a 48-hour ultimatum to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), urging it to direct central agencies to immediately release all Kuki-Zo persons who have been arrested and “Meitei “Criminals” should be investigated and punished.
The ultimatum stated that if the MHA fails to heed the calls for fair intervention and there is a gap of 48 hours, the CoTU will impose an indefinite shutdown in the entire Kangpokpi district.
The CoTU condemned the attempt by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to bring about “one-sided justice” and said the arrest and The arrest of Seiminlun Gangte is condemnable. A clear indication of biased attitude of MHA to support the false narrative of Valley Chief Minister in the disputed state.
The CoTU also demanded the arrest of officials and other officials involved in the looting of 6,000 weapons and six lakh ammunitions from the state armoury. The organization also demanded the central government to punish the culprits in the incident of crushing the intestines of the parade victims with appropriate punishment and provide swift justice to the culprits involved in the rape and murder of the two Kuki-zo girls.
It further demanded that a case be registered against those responsible for the burning of the 7-year-old boy and his mother who were burnt alive in the ambulance.
The CoTU demanded the arrest of Kishan Shoram and state commandos involved in the massacre of three Kuki Zo persons in Kangchep area and the arrest of Meirembam Romesh Mangang and his gang for the beheading of David Thiek. CoTU claimed they could produce photographic evidence of both incidents.
The CoTU appealed to the people of Kangpokpi district and other parts of Manipur to cooperate with the bandh and support their demands for justice.
