Shillong: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) to publish the marks secured by all candidates (selected and unselected) and address other concerns regarding the Commission’s examination processes.
Expressing their dissatisfaction with the MPSC’s clarification on the MCS (Prelims) Examination, the KSU accused the Commission of making a mockery of itself. In a letter to the MPSC Chairman, the KSU highlighted discrepancies in the Commission’s procedures.
Referring to an advertisement dated July 18, 2023, the KSU pointed out that para 8 stated, “candidates who will be called to appear for the Main Examination shall not be more than 15 times the number of vacancies declared.” With 35 vacancies advertised, the number of candidates for the mains should have been 525, but it increased to 642, violating the Commission’s own rule.
“The Commission must stop justifying its incompetence and denying deviations from the normal process. It is clear that the examination process has deviated, raising allegations of nepotism and favouritism,” the KSU stated.
The Khasi Student Union (KSU) clarified that their issue is with the MPSC, not the candidates, and demanded the public disclosure of all candidates’ marks to ensure transparency and restore public faith in the MPSC.
Regarding the results of the Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) published on July 25, 2024, where 25 candidates were selected for a personal interview, the KSU cited the advertisement dated August 2, 2019, which mentioned a selection ratio of 1:10 to 1:2.5. With 17 posts advertised, at least 42 or 43 candidates should have been selected for the interview, but only 27 were chosen, raising questions about the Commission’s adherence to its recruitment process.
Additionally, the KSU demanded justification for the selection process of the Statistical Officer under the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department. Despite an advertisement reaffirming a single post for the Khasi-Jaintia category, the notification dated June 27, 2024, showed two candidates selected, one from the Khasi-Jaintia category and the other from the Garo category, contradicting the original advertisement.
The KSU demanded an independent inquiry into these issues, clarification on the missing candidates for the MPS personal interview, and justification for the Statistical Officer selection process. The KSU warned that if their demands are not met within 48 hours, they will take prompt action.
