48 hour general strike called by JAC over killing of meitei person

Imphal: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the killing of Thokchom Ibomcha Singh has imposed a 48 hour general strike in Thoubal district with effect from 6am of July 3 till 6am of July 5 . The decision to impose the general strike has been taken since the Government has failed to act on the demands raised by the JAC in connection with the murder.

Condemning the abduction and murder of Thokchom Ibomcha Singh, founder of KIM Educational Society Khangabok, a sit-in protest and a public meeting was held today at Khangabok New Market organised by the JAC in collaboration with local clubs, organizations and meira paibis of the region.

It may be noted that abduction and murder of Thokchom Ibomcha Singh in connection with suspected monetary demand by a prominent proscribed outfit has sparked outrage in the region.

Reading out the resolutions of the public meeting, JAC co-convenor Khundrakpam Nabachandra said that the outfit behind the abduction and murder of Ibomcha should clarify publicly why Ibomcha was killed failing which the JAC, local clubs, organizations and locals will boycott the said outfit.

Furthermore, the meeting resolved not to claim the dead body of Ibomcha until and unless the culprits are booked and justice is delivered, he said.

He also called for support from the public in the activities of the JAC and urged all to condemn such heinous acts of killing a person for unreasonable monetary demands.

It is worth mentioning that Thokchom Ibomcha Singh was abducted by the members of the proscribed outfit from a tea stall at Khangabok Bazar at around 7 am of June 18 and was later found dead at Leishang Hiden, Lilong Chajing, under Singjamei police station on June 29 .
